Vital Skills in Befriending
About the courses
Befriending Networks has identified vital skills needed by befriending workers in 9 key areas. Each year each of these vital skills will be covered in a half day training with the exception of Training the Trainer, which will be a full day course (The full course will therefore take 5 days to complete).
Participants can chose to cover all 9 skills at once, spread them over a number of years or just pick and choose the topics that interest them most. The notes and handouts that accompany each session will build up into a vital skills handbook for workers.
Those who successfully complete all 9 sessions will be presented with a Befriending Networks Vital Skills in Befriending certificate. The course is designed to be a comprehensive grounding for new workers and a refresher for more experienced workers.
'Training for Trainers' is £90 per member delegate (£110 for non-members), and all the other Vital Skills courses are £50 per member (£60 per non-member). You can book the entire course of nine sessions for the discounted price of £450 per member (£540 per non-member). When booking the nine-course package as a Befriending Networks member, use the discount code 'v1tal' at checkout to obtain your discount. Non-members will need to book by contacting the Training Officer.

“I'd say it's definitely worth doing as it gives you an all round view of befriending co-ordination. It offers a good grounding to those new to befriending and can challenge your pre-conceived knowledge. It is conducted by a practitioner who has her finger very much on the pulse of befriending and is in no way sat in an ivory tower as sometimes trainers/tutors can be. It is a chance to meet other befriending co-ordinators who you can share ideas and concerns with and who are able to relate to your position.”
