CACE - #BefriendingIs keep trying

Tue 14 Jun 2022

CACE was initially founded in 1990 by a group of people who recognised the need to support older people in Cumbernauld and the surrounding areas. For over 30 years now, the charity has promoted the welfare of vulnerable, older people and their carers. They educate, train and work with people to improve quality of life in their community.

E and I

E was matched with a Befriendee I.  Things seemed to be going well at the 1st match when E was taken along to meet I.  I confirmed that he would very much like E to be his befriender.  After another visit or two.  E the Befriender contacted the office to say that the relationship was all one sided and I barely said a word.  He found it a struggle to keep the conversation going.  I asked E to persevere as quite a lot of befriendee’s had lost the art of conversation during the pandemic and isolation.  I also phoned I to ask him if he was still happy with his match.  He said he was very happy and on hearing this E agreed to give it another try.  Their relationship is going from strength to strength and E has also managed to persuade I to attend an Afternoon Tea Event provided by volunteers and fundraisers from ‘Sky’ at their business premises in Uddingston.
