Amba Care Solutions CIC

AmbaCare Solutions is a health and wellbeing social enterprise (voluntary organisation) based in the West Midlands, working across the UK, delivering projects which support people to live as well as they can given their personal circumstances.
Our projects help people to deal with the challenges in all aspects of their life. We believe that everyone is unique and make sure our solutions acknowledge and embrace diversity in a positive way, believing that we can all learn from each other. One of the services we provide is for people affected by dementia as a diagnosis of dementia almost always comes as a shock and is hard for everyone concerned. We provide services to reassure and support people in trying to be positive and to know they are not alone, and that there is support and services to help them improve their quality of life. We provide a befriending service which we call Dementia Buddies. A Dementia Buddy volunteer is someone who wants to make a positive difference to people living with dementia and/or their carer by providing a befriending service. We choose our volunteers carefully to ensure that they are a good communicator who can engage effectively, in a kind and empathetic way.
All our volunteers receive full training and support to enable them to carry out their Buddy role effectively. We make sure that they have a good understanding of dementia and are able to engage positively with the people they befriend. All volunteers are enhanced DBS checked so participants can be assured that they will receive a safe service at all times.
A Buddy will either have lived experience of dementia or will be someone who has a desire to improve the lives of people living with dementia and/or their carers. A Buddy will always treat the person they befriend with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect and will work within the limits of strict confidentiality.
They provide the information, support and motivation that is needed to enable people to make the best of their experience of living with dementia. They will help participants and/or their carer to address the issues which are affecting their health and wellbeing, to enable them to gain more control and have a better quality of life.
Participants, and/or their family, will be able to agree with the Buddy the kind of support they want which can be assisting with activities to help with memory and thinking; it might be doing puzzles, playing dominoes, looking at old photos, listening to music, helping to cook a favourite meal – whatever works best for the individual. It’s about participants in the befriending service saying what they want to do.

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES
We are currently recruiting Voluntary Dementia Buddies to befriend people affected by dementia. As a Dementia Buddy you will make a positive difference to the quality of life for people affected by dementia. You will be allocated one or more people living with dementia, depending on the number of hours you are able to volunteer. You will visit them in their home on a weekly basis. You will be a ‘friend’ finding out what the person likes to do and finding activities that can keep their mind active. It might be doing puzzles, playing dominoes, looking at old photos, listening to music – whatever works best for them. Sometimes it may be that you provide support and a listening ear to the person with caring responsibilities for the person living with dementia.
This role will suit someone who has lived experience of dementia or could be someone who has a desire to improve the lives of people living with dementia and/or their carers. You just need to be a good communicator who can engage effectively with people living with dementia, in a kind, compassionate, respectful way, treating them with dignity.
You will be given full training and ongoing support to enable you to carry out the role effectively. We would love to hear from YOU!
