The Wimbledon Guild of Social Welfare

About Wimbledon Guild
A local charity supporting people across Merton
We are a community charity in Merton providing a hand-up, not a hand-out. We support people throughout the borough who may need emotional, financial or practical support at any point in life. Wimbledon Guild is more than just a place, it is a real community where everyone belongs.
Our services aim to:
 Reduce social isolation and loneliness
 Help people who are experiencing difficulties
 Enable older people to be active and healthy
Befriending aims to reduce social isolation by matching clients with a Volunteer Befriender who they speak to or see every week.
Wimbledon Guild work in partnership with Age UK Merton to deliver Merton Befriending Programme for people who are socially isolated and meet the following criteria:-
• living in Merton
• housebound and/or
• living alone and/or
• recently bereaved and/or
• living with a long term condition

Information for volunteers

We support people using a person-centred approach to match them with a Volunteer Befriender. Our Befrienders call or visit once a week/fortnight. For some clients, contact with their Befriender can be the highlight of their week and can help a person to continue living independently in their own home.
Please see our website for more information about what we do.
