We add to our list each year and our publications programme for 2008/9 will see the addition of two important new titles – How to Cost, Set Up and Manage a Befriending Project and Telephone Befriending. This bestselling training resource is for any project which has to train its volunteer befrienders. The Distance Training Pack: How to Train Your Home-Based Volunteers
This innovative training resource offers a very useful alternative to face-to-face training. Consisting of six different workbooks, the pack covers key elements of befriending and each workbook can be completed at home, at the volunteer's own pace with co-ordinator back-up support provided by telephone. Originally developed to support a group of distance befrienders working with people with mental health problems, the workbooks can be easily adapted to fit any client group. They have been thoroughly roadtested and include a wide variety of entertaining and informative exercises.

Changing Lives - Video Training Resource
Changing Lives is a 15-minute video training resource which follows the progress of three very different befriending relationships in projects working with young people, adults and the elderly. It introduces those new to befriending to real-life situations and examines key issues including the secrets of successful matching, boundaries, attitudes and confidentiality. It also looks at what befrienders and befriendees gain from their befriending relationships. The video is accompanied by comprehensive training notes and activity suggestions and are designed to slot into your Training Toolkit.
What Do Mentoring and Befriending Mean To You: A DVD Training Resource
This 20-minute film presents the views of 5 matched pairs and brings to life the unique relationships that lie at the heart of mentoring and befriending. In the film, the distinction between mentoring and befriending may not always be apparent. This reflects the reality for some relationships and some services.
