Recruiting Befrienders: How to target and select your dream team

All Vital SKills training courses have moved to our new training platform, My Skill Camp. An interactive and user friendly interface that allows you to network while studying.

Purpose of course

This module is designed to develop your knowledge and understanding of recruiting befrienders. The recruitment of volunteers is a topic consistently raised at our networking events and it is why this course was designed and launched years ago - we know it can be a constant problem for befriending projects.

Recruiting and retaining the right volunteers is a continuous challenge for befriending services. Making sure you have a clear message about what you do and how you do it is important, you have to make sure your messages reaches the right target audience. How to be successful at all of these levels of the recruitment process is the key focus of this course.

Please note: Though the course is focused on the volunteer recruitment process, much of the information is transferable to staff recruitment too.

Assessment of Learning

To complete this course, all sections are mandatory. You will access our online training platform and work through the reading materials and written activities. Work must demonstrate a development of knowledge and understanding of the course content, and display strong ability in reflection to pass this course. Participants will receive a certificate on completion. Some of the topics included in the course are:

  • How to design a strong recruitment campaign
  • The importance for a transparent recruitment pathway
  • Conducting an efficient interview
  • Creating your role descriptor and application pack

Duration and Time Commitment

We are aware that many staff in the third sector are part-time. For this reason, the course is spread out over a few weeks to allow participants to balance their study time within personal and/or work commitments. On average, participants take six hours to complete a vital skills module. This work is to be completed within your own time, scheduling your independent learning around your work schedule and commitments. All work must be completed prior to the online session. On the last day of this course all participants come together to discuss the materials, their answers and to participate in some interactive tasks. This session is held on Zoom.

The zoom session for this course is on Tuesday 30th August, 09:30am to 11:30am

This course is £55 for members of Befriending Networks, £65 for non-members. Are you a member? Make sure to log in before booking to receive your discount.
