National Conference 2021: Day One - Our Day of Research

This year we are splitting our national conference over three virtual events. Each year we receive such varied feedback: some requesting more networking, some for academics and some for workshops. We have taken all these requests on board and have decided that this year we would tailor a day to each individual request. We are also creating padlet boards for each day so that you can interact, share resources, contact details and more before, during and after the conference. Details of DAY ONE: OUR DAY OF RESEARCH, as they currently stand, are below:

Day One Schedule for conference

Who is this for?

This event is open to both members and non-members of Befriending Networks who are looking to learn more about the field as a whole. £10 for members, £30 for non-members.

Why were these items chosen?

It is important to be aware of the research that has recently been conducted on befriending. Our two keynotes have conducted two different studies, both reviewing the impact befriending can make, the need for befriending and recommendations for moving forward. Our first keynote is Kate Jopling, an independent consultant who was the co-author of two papers by Mercers Company and Independent Age: Understanding befriending – A study of befriending schemes for older people; and Lessons from befriending in the time of COVID-19. While our second keynote, Annabel Collins is the Programme Manager of Ageing Better in Camden and was a guest blogger for the Campaign to End Loneliness, reviewing “what we learnt about tackling loneliness before and during COVID-19".

We believe these two keynotes will provide very relatable information to you, while challenging you to consider the next steps for your project post-pandemic. Each keynote will reflect on their research and their learnings since. You will have the opportunity to ask questions to each through the chat function and the event Padlet page which you will receive the link too prior to the event.
