What is Befriending?

Befriending Networks 'Guide to Good Practice in Befriending' defines befriending as "a relationship between a befriender (volunteer) and befriendee (client) which is initiated, supported and monitored by a voluntary or statutory agency". Befriending offers a supportive, trusting relationship through volunteer befrienders to befriendees throughout all sections of the community who are socially isolated or facing difficulties in their lives.
