Volunteer Centre Greenwich

Befriending
The Emotional Support and Wellbeing Project provides telephone support to the residents of Greenwich isolated from the continuing effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. This project has been a lifeline to many residents and continues to be so as the uncertainty and challenges of living through this pandemic affects people’s lives in so many ways.
The project is now offering walk and talk, coffee and chat meet ups and support to access activities.
Skilled trained volunteers provide telephone support to those in need of friendship, reassurance and connection during this situation.
All volunteers are trained to not only offer a friendly ear but also to identify additional services required and to signpost and refer individuals to other organisations. This project provides emotional support and pathways to meet the changing needs of vulnerable residents in Greenwich.

Supported Volunteering
Volunteer Centre Greenwich has run a supported volunteering project for over ten years, supporting people with a range of needs including, disability, mental health issues, long term unemployment and barriers in social housing.
The project provides bespoke volunteering opportunities accessed with the support of a trained mentor. This is coupled with a qualification in an accredited Level 1 Employability Skills Course or Customer Services. A trained mentor is matched with the person we are supporting and provides tailored support dependant on the needs of the mentee. All mentors have a Level 2 accredited qualification in Mentoring.
The project enhances people’s employment prospects by increasing their confidence, skills and experience. Mentors work with their mentees to support them in identifying and working towards their agreed goals and move towards their next step in their employment journey.
Currently the project is supporting people with a learning disability.
