The Helpful Bureau

The aim of the Helpful Bureau is to support older people to stay independent and in their own homes for as long as possible, with both practical services and opportunities to get out and about.
We introduced befriending to support people who, often through life changes, find that they need someone to talk to individually, rather than joining one of our groups. The service can be in person or by phone as required and we will aim to match you with someone with similar interests.
We hope that people who join us for befriending will move onto some of our other activities in time but it is all about personal choice.

Information for volunteers

We are looking for a range of people who are able to befriend an older person in the area we work in, which is the Stapleford, Beeston, Chilwell, Toton & Bramcote areas of Nottinghamshire. Mostly clients will appreciate face to face meetings but there may be some opportunities for phone based too. We will ask you about your interests, which helps to match people. We have a range of other support services and activities, so we will brief you about these, so that there are more opportunities for getting out. We will offer an induction and training to new Befrienders and we have regular volunteer events in our calendar.
