Safety Net (UK)

If you have been affected by rape, exploitation, sexual or domestic abuse and live in Cumbria our befriending service can support you on your recovery journey following engagement and support from the service. Our trained volunteers give a listening ear and a helping hand through one-to-one support. Volunteers will support and encourage you to access community services as well as develop your support network, as we know this is an important part of recovering from abuse.

Our volunteers are trained as befrienders and understand the impact abuse has on people. Some of our volunteers have had previous support from Safety Net so through their lived experience they understand the challenges faced by those on our waiting lists as well as those who have just completed therapeutic work and support with next steps.

If you are a survivor of rape, exploitation, sexual or domestic abuse in Cumbria you can self-refer for support from Safety Net (UK) by visiting https://www.safetynetuk.org/ or calling us on 01228 515859.

Information for volunteers

Safety Net offers specialist Trauma Informed tiered services that support the recovery of those affected by rape, exploitation, sexual and domestic abuse across Cumbria. We offer advice, support, therapy and a safe space to help people recover from the trauma of abuse.

Volunteers play a pivotal role in delivering our recovery community and relationship building support service. We work in partnership with other charities, groups, gyms, and clubs to support integration back into the community, helping survivors to build social networks and relationships. Our befrienders work 1:1 with those who have finished their therapy or support at Safety Net via telephone or face to face and focus on supporting them to build their confidence and access a range of activities and opportunities, which may include our own Coffee and Crafts or Men’s Groups for example.

We continue to develop and grow our volunteers and are looking to offer a wide range of opportunities for Volunteers to participate from Walk and Talk group Leaders, Qualified Therapists and Professional Services to name just a few.

If you believe in what we do, want to make a difference to survivors lives and your values align with ours then please get in touch.
