Leuchie House

Leuchie House is a National Respite Centre for individuals with long term neurological conditions. We also offer Day Respite. Our new befriending service "Leuchie@Home", is a natural progression of the service where we have identified a need in the community and want to provide volunteer befriending to individuals , some of whom we know, who are isolated, lonely and who are seeking support and also to allow their unpaid carer, where they have one, to attend support groups and meet friends.

Information for volunteers

We are very fortunate to have a very large group of volunteers who currently help at Leuchie House. These volunteers help in the offices with admin, the garden, the kitchen and with guests ( service users) where they are involved in activities, trips and outings. Our volunteers tell us they enjoy participating in the running of the service. It provides they say "a sense of job satisfaction and helps put my life into perspective" Volunteers also say it provides them with new skills in a field that they perhaps haven't been involved with before. Volunteers in our new service will be matched to individuals in their own homes and will visit them on a regular basis and establish a ongoing relationship, chatting about a common interest or assisting them with an activity. This will also allow their unpaid carer to attend a support group or catch up with a friend for a chat. Volunteers will be provided with a through induction programme, supported in their new role and supervised on a regular basis to ensure they happy in their position. Regular training opportunities will be available in relation to the differing conditions they will come across and any challenges they may face.
