Fife Voluntary Action

Kingdom Companions is a goal orientated, short-term befriending project (approx. 16 weeks) for anyone in Fife suffering from isolation or loneliness.
Volunteer befrienders will work with the person and support them to meet their goals, which could be to build confidence in going outdoors, walking to the shops, getting the bus, taking up a new hobby, joining social groups or a gardening project etc. The relationship should have a clearly defined purpose, with the duration of the relationship made clear from the onset. The befriender is a companion for the individual during this time to help motivate them and support them to achieve their goal.

Information for volunteers

We are looking for befrienders from all backgrounds to meet weekly, short-term with the vulnerable befriendees across Fife who are feeling isolated or lonely to help them achieve their goal. This may be in the adult’s own home or in the community.

There are roles all over Fife for befrienders who have a couple of hours a week/fortnight to help someone with this. Befriending can be a terrific way to build confidence and skills for jobs such as social care or customer service, as well as helping volunteers to get out, feel good about helping others and even go to new places.

Once recruited we provide short training sessions and seek 2 references, as well as a PVG check. Befrienders will be provided a direct number to contact the coordinator who also has monthly supervision sessions with the befriender and befriendee.
