Opening Doors London

Our Befriending Service is for LGBT+ people over 50. We have a face to face service for those living in London and a Telefriending service for anyone in the UK.

Living in London can become a lonely experience as you grow older, especially if you can’t get out and about as you used to. Having someone to spend time with and talk to can make all the difference.

Befriending matches you with a volunteer Befriender for regular social contact, with visits every week or fortnight. Your Befriender and you might:
- go along to social groups and community activities
- go to exhibitions or events
- have a cup of tea and a chat in your home.

Information for volunteers

The Befriending Service supports LGBT+ people aged over 50 with the aim of reducing social isolation and connect people with other members of their community. You will meet or call someone once a week to every other week for around an hour or two. We will match you with someone who is right for you, where you both have similar interests. We will also come with you to your first couple of visits to help you both get to know each other.
