Skye & Lochalsh Council For Voluntary Organisations
Skye & Lochalsh Befrienders is a volunteer befriending project run by Skye and Lochalsh Council for Voluntary Organisations in partnership with Highland Hospice.
Our aim is to reduce loneliness and isolation experienced by people in Skye and Lochalsh by providing a regular volunteer befriending visit in a person's home environment.
The project will be used to identify what type of befriending services are required in our communities and how we can ensure what we provide is relevant to people involved.
We are hoping this service will continue for future years, connecting people and communities through volunteer befriending.
Information for volunteers
Making a difference to a person's life and meeting new people are just two reasons people become a volunteer befriender. If you are interested in other people, are a good listener and can commit 2-3 hours a fortnight, then befriending may be for you.
Our matching service is centred on both the individual and volunteer interests. We hold an initial meeting so volunteers and individuals can get to know each other and, if successful,
we schedule visits for up to six months.
Previous experience is not required as full training and continual support is provided.
