Skye & Lochalsh Council For Voluntary Organisations

Befrienders Skye & Lochalsh is a volunteer befriending project run by Skye and Lochalsh Council for Voluntary Organisations in partnership with Highland Hospice.

Our aim is to reduce loneliness and isolation experienced by people over the age of 18 in Skye and Lochalsh by providing a regular volunteer befriending visit in a person's home environment. Since the onset of coronavirus we have adjust our method of delivery and now offer telephone befriending as an option.

Information for volunteers

Making a difference to a person's life and meeting new people are just two reasons people become a volunteer befriender. If you are interested in other people, are a good listener and can commit 2-3 hours a fortnight, then befriending may be for you.

Our matching service is centred on both the individual and volunteer interests. We hold an initial meeting so volunteers and individuals can get to know each other and, if successful,
we schedule visits for up to six months.

Previous experience is not required as full training and continual support is provided.
