The Volunteer Link Scheme

We are a befriending charity based in the London Borough of Ealing. We support people who are isolated and lonely due to physical or sensory disability, dementia, or due to mental health problems. We also support carers who are isolated due to their caring role and need a break.

We train volunteers who visit people once a week for a couple of hours, to help them get out of the house, or to spend time with them at home, or to allow a carer to have a break.

Information for volunteers

We recruit and train volunteers to undertake one of three befriending roles:-

General Volunteer Befriender for lonely and isolated (mainly older) people

Volunteer Befriender - Support for Family Carers

Linked Minds Volunteer - Supporting people with mental health problems

The volunteer receives Volunteers Induction training followed by specialist training where appropriate. Volunteers are fully supported by our Befriending Coordinators by phone and face-to-face and they are encouraged to ring us if they have any issues with their client at any time.

We also volunteers meetings every three months at which volunteers can socialise and speakers attend to talk about relevant subjects. We also hold at least two social events for volunteers during the year, including one in Volunteers Week in June.
