Meal Makers (Food Train)

Meal Makers is a local neighbourhood food-sharing project that connects people who love cooking, and who are happy to share an extra portion of home cooked food, with an older neighbour who would really appreciate a freshly prepared meal and a friendly chat. By turning an everyday activity into a volunteering opportunity, Meal Makers strengthens connections within communities and provides a flexible way for people to volunteer their time and skills locally in a way which suits them.

Information for volunteers

We use an online platform to match a Volunteer (Cook) with a local older neighbour (Diner) who would like a home cooked meal and some company. Volunteers can sign up online at www.mealmakers.org.uk or call the number above. Volunteers plate up an extra portion of whatever they are cooking for themselves to take to an older neighbour. We offer basic online hygiene training, PVG and ongoing support online. Everyone's safety at Meal Makers is important so we also provide guidance for our Cooks to follow when meal sharing during the COVID-19 pandemic. We remain flexible to respond to the current pandemic but continue to still support our older members at this time with an adapted service.
