What Befriend Motherwell can offer you

One to One Matches.
You will be matched with a volunteer who will visit you once per week for 1 to 2 hours.
At Befriend Motherwell we try to match you with a volunteer who has similar likes or interests where possible.

Telephone Befriending.
Once per week a Befriend Motherwell staff member will call you on a weekly basis for a chat to see how you are.
Telephone befriending is utilised when you are on the waiting list looking for a befriender.
Additionally, telephone befriending can be selected on its own to have a small chat on the phone each week.

Groups.
Befriend Motherwell runs several weekly groups in sheltered housing complexes within and around Motherwell. These groups meet on a set time and day each week and partake in various activities for examples crafts or games. During the year outings are arranged to take the groups out to a chosen destination such as garden centres.

Information for volunteers

What we can offer volunteers.

Befriend Motherwell is always on the lookout for volunteers to help us improve the lives of elderly residents in the local area.

There are two types of volunteering opportunities that we can offer.

The first is 1-1 befriending matches.
Volunteers are matched where possible with an elderly person in the community with similar likes or interests.
Volunteers visit their match once per week for 1 to 2 hours per week for a cuppa and a chat or perhaps going on an outing ie. going to a coffee shop.

What we ask of you.
-To undertake induction training.
-To provide satisfactory character references.
-To undergo a PVG check.
-To be nonjudgmental and reliable.
-To respect confidentiality.
-To keep in touch with Befriend Motherwell.

What we can offer you.
-Gain valuable experience.
-Be reimbursed for expenses including travel costs.
-Be supported by Befriend Motherwell.
-Kept up to date with information regarding befriending.
