BeFriends provides help and support through a One-to-One Befriending and specialist groups to vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people (aged 5-25) in Dundee who are experiencing difficulties or who are or at risk of becoming socially isolated.
Befriending offers the friendship and support of trained, vetted and disclosure checked adult volunteers to local children aged 5-25 years who have been referred because they are experiencing difficulties within their lives. The volunteers and children enjoy activities together once per week or once every two weeks. These outings give the children and young people the opportunity to have fun and gain new experiences whilst also providing the chance to talk and discuss any problems or difficulties.
Information for volunteers
The charity BeFriends could not exist and offer high quality and exceptional support without volunteers. It is through volunteers that Befriends is able to offer support to disadvantaged local children and young people. Volunteers are fully trained before being matched to a young person. After matching the fun begins as volunteers and young people start to develop a befriending relationship through weekly or fortnightly contact. Activities and spending time together playing games, going to events and activities together, doing arts and crafts at BeFriends together, doing something new or doing something that you or a young person really enjoys can help build and develop a young person's confidence as well as life and social skills. BeFrienders gain valuable experience and training opportunities that are useful for self development and learning and highly appropriate for anyone that wants to work with young people.
