Home Link Family Support

Volunteer to support families with pre-school children, at home, and provide practical and emotional support. We work in Edinburgh and Midlothian. Families want help to get out and about; need an extra pair of hands to help with a new baby plus their toddlers; or are facing stressful issues and need someone neutral to talk it through with.
By being a good listener, a volunteer can gently build up parents’ skills and self-esteem. Volunteers also help families to get engaged with early learning, so every visit will involve some reading or playing with the children.
During the pandemic our volunteers are still supporting families by phone and zoom. It's going well. Soon we plan that volunteers will meet families outdoors for fun and chats.

Information for volunteers

During the pandemic our volunteers are still supporting families by phone and zoom. It's going well. Soon we plan that volunteers will meet families outdoors for fun and chats. We are looking for new volunteers right now.

This is our non- pandemic roles description: By visiting a family at home for 2 hrs a week you will provide a depth of support that will make a difference to their confidence as parents.

We support families with children under 5 in Edinburgh and Midlothian. We provide very thorough training and ongoing regular support and supervision.

All families are different but most need someone non-judgemental to talk to who will praise and encourage them. They also want someone to read and play with their children.
