About the courses

“Action Learning Sets are, by their nature, usually useful and supportive places to allow thinking away from the immediate demands of your inbox. You get even more when the set is facilitated by Joette Thomas. She is very skilled at creating the best environment for learning, offering an excellent mix of coaching, stimulating reading and advice from her own wide experience.”
—Ewan Malcolm, Director Scottish Mediation Network

One of the main complaints of experienced befriending coordinators is that they don't have anyone with whom they can explore, develop and reflect on their work. Befriending Network Scotland is offering the chance to participate in a set of 5 peer support/action learning sessions. Action Learning is an accelerated learning tool which can be applied to any number of different workplace issues and challenges. It is ideally suited for people with 3 years' experience in befriending, those who have participated in the Developing the Leader course and those who are keen to stretch and challenge themselves in a supportive, well-facilitated environment.

Course facilitator

The day will be facilitated by Joette Thomas. Joette runs a similar set for the Association of Chief Officers of Scottish Voluntary Organisations (ACOSVO).

Joette brings diverse experience from work with individuals and organisations. Working in human services since 1990, Joette has a Master's degree in Women's Studies and Psychology, and is a graduate of the reputable 'COACH U' Coach Training Programme. She works with individuals as a personal coach, and also provides coaching in the workplace. Her work with organisations includes a range of organisational development supports including team building, organisational review, evaluation and training. She has a particular interest in working within the voluntary sector, as its work is aligned closely with her own personal values. Joette managed the Saheliya befriending service from 2000-04 and is a former chairperson of Befriending Network Scotland.

Cost

The full package of five meetings in the Action Learning set costs £150 per person.
